LOST

I LOVE IT! I am totally baffled as to what is going on. They aren't giving me enough clues... what the heck is up with that guy Echo.

I bought an espresso machine at Starbucks yesterday. I realize it's a lot of money, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity. I made a decaf vanilla latte tonight. mmmm

I've developed a case of the sniffles. bummer.

Happy Thanksgiving Back

Spent Thanksgiving with Jenny Dieter's family this year. It was great. Realized that I have a lot to be thankful for despite how hard life can be for me.
We ate:
Smoked Turkey (to die for)
Mashed Potatoes
cornbread stuffing/dressing
Pear and pecan glazed sweet potatoes
homemade dinner rolls
salad
cranberry relish
greenbean salad with jicama, red and orange bell peppers and a mustard/onion puree
2 kinds of pumpkin pie
so good and so many left overs

Winter

Winter has arrived in Denver. The past few days have been glorious. Sunny and cold, I can't ask for better weather.
I spent the night at Jenny's in Colorado Springs last night and I woke up to a couple of inches of snow. I walked outside to turn on my car (before I was going to leave) and my breath was taken away. The mountains were gigantic and covered in a new dusting of snow. As I drove away I said outloud to myself, "holy cow, I live here. Look at those mountains"
Although, I must admit that it makes me want to stay in bed longer and drink gallons of hot chocolate. And because of this problem I was late to school twice this week, eeps.

the smell of banana bread is filling my house right now. I plan on making french toast with it tomorrow morning. yessssss.

attack of the stray cat

I tried being nice to a cat that was meowing at me on my porch the other day. It was so skinny and looked so lonely. I went outside and played with it for a little while, then I went inside to get it some milk to drink. I was told later that cats don't actually drink milk, who knew?
After a while I got tired of being nice and went back inside. It started meowing so loudly and scratching my sliding door and my screen, etc. I thought to myself "self, maybe she just doesn't know how to jump over the wall." So I went out and lifted it up and tried to put it down on the grass (my porch is kind of underground so it's much higher from the inside than the outside) but the kitty freaked out and scratched me to pieces and essentiall hung onto me with her claws. that's what I get. duh

In other news, I'm going to CA this weekend. YAY. It's a whirlwind trip but I can't wait. Someone tell the Whole Enchilada that I'm on my way and I've missed them. :)

friendliness has its perks

So last night I worked at the "bucks" and my friend Stephanie met me for dinner. We have several fast food restaurants in the near vicinity and in this instance I decided on Wendy's. We're patiently waiting in line and this super creepy/drunk-looking/probably on something type man drops a dollar on the floor and Stephanie kindly pointed it out to him that he'd dropped it. Then he looks up at us and says "you guys are such sweet hearts, you're so nice" and then he drops another. I'm sure it was on purpose, but I said "hey sir, you dropped another dollar" and he continues to tell us how wonderful we are and how nice we are. Then he orders and whispers something to the cashier and then walked right out the door.
He paid for our meal. He slapped down 15 bucks and paid for our dinner. Pretty sweet, eh? I didn't even get to thank him. (it's probably better)

I was joking with Stephanie over my meal that it was the best date I'd had in a long time. Free meal without having to deal with the boy. :) of course I was just joking, but I got a good laugh.

new fav

My new favorite dish (at least for a week or so until I make something else I love) is etouffe. Yummy. It's kind of hard to explain except that it is Cajun goodness with really whatever kind of proteiny thing in it. I made mine with chicken, crawdads and andouille sausage (my current favorite). The key was a hint of lemon juice and fresh oregano. man, so good.

I also made another pumpkin pie tonight. I really can't get enough. my crust was a little too salty (bummer) but the custard was better... I added more ginger. who knew?

Well, that's my food talk for the week. moving on to other things: I got offered a job by Whole Foods Market but I'm turning it down tomorrow. I love Starbucks too much to leave and I just got my benefits. Weird, eh?

I'm going to California next weekend for a whirlwind trip to support my bro in his last year of college activities. plus UCLA football is incredible this season and I'm embarrassed to have missed so many this season due to the move... can't wait to hug my family and friends, watch some great ball AND eat at the Whole Enchilada. Why can't I find good Mexican food here? i guess i'll keep looking.

I also finally decided on a church. Denver Community Church. I feel great about the decision. Thanks Lord for that peace that passes understanding.

Heidi, if you haven't watched Survivor stop reading now...

I'm out of the Survivor pool yet again... and not even before he gets on the jury how embarrassing.
